Additional information

This piece marks the bicentennial of the Kingdom of Prussia, commemorating Frederick I's assumption of the royal title on January 18, 1701. Wilhelm II used the occasion deliberately — the 1901 celebrations were as much about consolidating Hohenzollern dynastic prestige within the German Empire as they were about historical reflection. The commemorative was struck at multiple Prussian mints, identifiable by their mint marks, and issued for circulation rather than purely as a presentation piece.

J#105 distinguishes this from the regular-issue 2 Mark types in the Jaeger catalog. Proof strikes exist and command a significant premium over business strikes.
