正面描述 Bare-headed effigy of Ludwig II, King of Bavaria, facing right, with finely detailed wavy hair and a short beard, rendered in high relief. The legend LUDWIG II KŒNIG V. BAYERN curves around the periphery, with the mint mark D positioned in the lower exergue below the truncation. The portrait is executed in a naturalistic academic style characteristic of late 19th-century German coinage. A fine beaded border frames the entire design.

附加信息

Louis II of Bavaria had almost no interest in governing and spent the 1870s and early 1880s obsessively commissioning fantasy castles — Neuschwanstein, Linderhof, Herrenchiemsee — running the kingdom into catastrophic debt. His coinage was minted under the German Empire's unified monetary system established by the 1871 and 1873 currency laws, which stripped individual kingdoms of meaningful monetary independence even as they retained nominal issuing authority.

Louis was declared insane and deposed in June 1886, found dead the following day under contested circumstances. The 1876–1883 window for this issue closed well before that crisis.
