Obverse description Right-facing bare-headed effigy of Friedrich I, Grand Duke of Baden, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and a full beard. The truncation is adorned with a sprig of flowering myrtle extending across the lower field, flanked by the commemorative dates 1852 and 1902, marking his fifty-year reign. The circumferential legend reads FRIEDRICH GROSHERZOG VON BADEN, separated from the effigy by a plain inner border. The portrait displays a naturalistic, late-nineteenth-century medallic style characteristic of engraver Rudolf Mayer. A beaded outer border encircles the entire design.
