A continuous Latin legend encircles the field, reading clockwise from the lower left, interrupted by the commemorative dates at the base. Below the busts, the dates '13 · NOV · 1504 · 1904 ·' mark the four-hundredth anniversary of Philipp's birth. The motto 'VERBUM · DNI · MANET · IN · AETERNUM' (The Word of the Lord endures forever) appears integrated into the left portion of the surrounding legend. |

The denomination 'ZWEI MARK' is inscribed in the lower field beneath the eagle's tail, flanked by small six-pointed stars.
