Beschrijving voorzijde Plain cream-coloured note printed in black and orange on a lightly patterned guilloche underprint. The upper portion carries the issuer's full title in bold black letterpress, below which the denomination 'Goldnote über 2 Mark Gold' is set in large orange type, followed by the value in words 'In Worten Zwei Mark Gold.' A lengthy redemption text in small black type occupies the centre, stating that the Handelskammer-Nebenstelle Gmünd (Charlottenstr. 9) will pay as trustee against this gold note and ten Goldpfennig notes one half Dollar of the stable-value gold loan of the German Reich. The serial number and date 'Schw. Gmünd, 30. Opmerkingen

Schwäbisch Gmünd was the center of Germany's goldsmithing and silverware industry, and in 1923 the employer association covering that trade — encompassing both precious and base metal manufacturers and their auxiliary trades — issued this note to meet payroll obligations that Reichsbank currency simply couldn't fulfill fast enough. Hyperinflation made weekly, then daily wage payments logistically impossible through normal channels, so industry associations issued their own Notgeld denominated in gold-based units rather than inflating paper marks.

The gold Mark denomination was a deliberate hedge — pegging to a stable unit of account while the Papiermark collapsed around it. An official stamp served as the primary authentication, typical of hastily organized employer-issued emergency scrip.
