Obverse description	The upper register carries the municipal arms of Freren — a crowned shield bearing a stylised leaf motif — flanked by the bold Gothic-lettered title inscription. The central vignette, rendered in a vivid lithographic style, presents a busy scene at Freren railway station: a crowd of 'Hamsterers' (wartime food foragers) laden with sacks and baskets scrambles alongside a steam locomotive, with the station building visible to the right and the inscription 'Hamsterer Extra-Zug' rising in the smoke. The denomination '2 Mark 2' is set in large pink shadow letters against a dark band across the lower margin.

Reverse description	The reverse is divided into three vertical panels against a dark border: the two outer panels each show a sack filled with grain or beans, with Low German dialect verses inscribed on them. The wide central panel contains a coloured lithographic vignette titled 'Des Hamsters Traum' (The Hamster's Dream), in which a plump, contented hamster sits amidst piles of potatoes and grain surrounded by floating hams, sausages and loaves. A caption panel below reads 'Dem Hamsterheere wohlbekannt / ist Freren im Hannoverland', and the denomination '2 Mk' appears in large pink shadow letters at left and right. The printer's imprint 'Gebr. Teisman, Freren' is printed in small type at the lower right.
