The Erholungsstätten Gesellschaft E.V. — a Hamburg welfare association focused on providing rest and recuperation facilities for working-class residents — issued this note under the umbrella of the Hamburger Ausschuss für soziale Fürsorge, a coordinating body for social welfare organizations in the city.
Welfare associations issuing their own emergency currency was not unheard of in 1923, but it was uncommon enough that these notes circulated within a narrow institutional network rather than general commerce.
