Wiedenbrück's municipal administration issued notgeld in 1921 under conditions that were worsening fast — the inflation spiral that would become hyperinflation was already eroding confidence in Reichsbank currency, and small towns across Westphalia were printing their own emergency fractional notes simply to keep local commerce functional. Ad. Eßich & Co. in Oldenburg handled a considerable volume of such municipal commissions during this period, which likely kept unit costs low enough for a small Magistrat to justify the print run.
The designer credit to Nausester is unusual — municipal notgeld of this denomination rarely bothered with named designers at all.
