Opmerkingen

Elberfeld issued its own emergency currency — Notgeld — during the severe coin shortage that gripped Germany after World War One. The city was one of dozens of Wuppertal-area municipalities that turned to local printers rather than wait for central bank supply to stabilize. Meise & Möcking, based in the nearby district of Vohnwinkel, handled a substantial volume of regional Notgeld contracts in this period.

Elberfeld ceased to exist as an independent municipality in 1929 when it was absorbed into the newly consolidated city of Wuppertal — giving all Stadt Elberfeld issues a hard terminal date.
