Graasten sits in the Schleswig region, which transferred from German to Danish sovereignty following the 1920 plebiscite — this note was almost certainly printed and issued in the immediate window surrounding that transition, when local municipalities were scrambling to manage practical currency shortages left by the administrative upheaval. It is municipal notgeld in the strictest sense: a local stopgap, not a bank instrument.
A. Ritscher printed locally, which was common for small Schleswig notgeld issues. The engraver credit to J. Lyck is the more unusual detail — named engravers appear rarely on municipal emergency notes of this type and denomination.
