Belgard an der Persante — today Białogard in northwestern Poland — was a small Pomeranian administrative center whose municipal savings bank (Sparkasse) issued this Notgeld in 1918 as the German wartime economy ground down the supply of small-denomination metal coinage almost entirely. Flemming & Wiskott in Glogau were among the more prolific provincial printers of this emergency scrip, handling output for dozens of municipalities across Silesia and Pomerania.

The specific Flemming & Wiskott variant designation in the reference number suggests at least five printing states exist within this denomination — minor typographic or color differences that catalogers have distinguished but that were invisible and irrelevant to anyone using the note to buy bread in 1918.
