Aanvullende informatie

Theodore Adolphus of Recke served as Prince-Bishop of Paderborn during one of the most economically turbulent stretches in the region's history — the aftermath of the Thirty Years' War had left Westphalian coinage systems fragmented, local silver supplies inconsistent, and trade circuits badly disrupted. Small denomination silver issues like this Mariengroschen were workhorses of interregional commerce, circulating alongside the debased coinage of a dozen competing authorities. The Mariengroschen itself was a denomination closely tied to the Lower Saxon and Westphalian circles, its value pegged nominally to the Virgin Mary's association with the bishopric's identity.

Theodore Adolphus held the see from 1650 until his death in 1661 — a reign short enough that his minted types remain relatively scarce across all denominations.
