Reverse description Central device features a rampant lion passant guardant, representing the Kingdom of León, executed in the crude but vigorous style typical of early sixteenth-century hammered Hispanic billon issues. The lion occupies most of the field within a beaded inner circle. A partial Latin circular legend surrounds the device, reading fragments of the joint royal titulature of Juana and Carlos. The flan is irregular and the strike uneven, consistent with the artisanal production methods of the Segovia or La Coruña mint workshops during this period.
