| Opschrift voorzijde | DON PHELIPPE (Translation: Philip II) |
| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse displays a rampant lion passant to the left (leon rampante), occupying the central field and emblematic of the Kingdom of León, rendered in the bold, somewhat crude style typical of hammered low-denomination issues of Philip II. The lion is depicted with raised forepaw and open mouth, consistent with the heraldic conventions of sixteenth-century Castilian coinage. A beaded inner border encircles the central device, with the partial royal titulature legend dispersed around the periphery, much of it weakly struck or lost to the irregular flan. The flan exhibits characteristic hammered planchet irregularity and surface porosity. The design corresponds to the standard type for 2 Maravedis issues of Philip II struck at Burgos under the monetary ordinances of 1566. |
