| 背面描述 | The central device features the Lesotho coat of arms in high relief, depicting a seated Basotho figure holding traditional weapons and implements, flanked by two rearing horses as supporters, with a crocodile at the base and a banner below bearing the national motto 'KHOTSO PULA NALA'. Beneath the arms, the denomination '2 MALOTI' is inscribed in large bold lettering, with the date '1966' and the fineness notation '900/1000' appearing in the lower field, flanked by small decorative stars. |

Lesotho's independence from British rule came on 4 October 1966, and this gold issue was struck specifically to mark that occasion — one of the first coins produced for the newly sovereign kingdom. Moshoeshoe II had been installed as king only weeks before independence was formally declared, having spent years under the constitutional constraints imposed by the Basutoland protectorate arrangement.
The Pn6 designation confirms this as a pattern piece rather than a circulation strike, almost certainly produced in very limited numbers for presentation or archival purposes.
