The 2 Maloti was part of Lesotho's first substantive banknote series, introduced after the country had spent years using South African Rand through the Rand Monetary Area agreement. Breaking from that arrangement required both a new currency and credible paper — Bradbury Wilkinson, by then one of the most experienced security printers in the Commonwealth, handled the job from their New Malden facility.
Two signature combinations are recorded for Pick 4, reflecting turnover in the Central Bank's senior positions during the note's relatively short print run before the series was superseded in the mid-1980s.
