Opmerkingen

The Lesotho Monetary Authority was a short-lived institution — established in 1978 and superseded by the Central Bank of Lesotho in 1982 — which makes this inaugural Pick #1 issue a narrow window. Bradbury Wilkinson, then operating out of New Malden before the firm was absorbed into De La Rue, printed the complete first series for the new authority.

E.R. Sekhonyana served as the Minister of Finance, an unusual arrangement for a signatory on banknotes, where a central bank governor is the more typical counterpart. The pairing of a government minister with a banking official rather than two bank officers reflects just how provisional the Monetary Authority's structure remained in its early years.
