Opmerkingen

The "Machu Picchu" series was part of Peru's broader effort to shift from the long-running huacos and fauna themes toward a nationally iconic imagery program. The 2 Sol denomination is the workhorse of everyday retail transactions, so notes at this level tend to circulate hard and fast — paper examples from this series often show premature wear along the horizontal fold lines within months of issue.

Printed by the Casa de Moneda de Perú in Lima, this is one of the relatively few South American circulating notes of the period produced by a domestic security printer rather than contracted abroad.
