| Obverse description | Diademed and draped bust of Louis XV facing left, engraved in the mature portrait style by Joseph-Charles Röettiers. The king's elaborately curled long wig falls to the shoulder, rendered with fine detail characteristic of mid-18th-century French royal coinage. A circular legend surrounds the effigy, with the mint engraver's privy mark and the mint-master's mark appearing below the truncation in the lower field. The coin's broad, flat field and well-defined relief reflect the high standard of milled French royal gold coinage of this period. |
