| Obverse description | Janiform conjoined heads of the youthful Artemis-Arethusa and an older bearded male deity, facing left and right respectively, depicted back-to-back in high relief characteristic of late Classical Syracusan coinage. Both heads are adorned with pearl-beaded diadems, with the hair rendered in fine detailed strands tied at the top. The divided civic ethnic ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣ–ΙΩΝ runs in two parts along the left and upper fields, flanking the conjoined busts. |
