Additional information

Lithuania's return to the litas in 1993 — after decades of Soviet occupation during which the currency had been abolished entirely — made the bimetallic 2 litai a politically charged denomination from the outset. The coin's long production window closed when Lithuania joined the eurozone on 1 January 2015, ending over two decades of restored monetary independence.
