| 正面描述 | The central field depicts a traditional Maltese fishing boat (dghajsa) resting on stylized waves, with a radiant sun rising above it in the upper field. A figure, possibly a fisherman, is visible to the right of the vessel. The design is rendered in a bold, graphic style within a raised inner border. The circular legend REPUBBLIKA TA MALTA is inscribed along the periphery in raised Latin characters, with a small five-pointed star serving as a stop at the base. |

This coin was struck as part of Malta's first domestic silver coinage program following independence from Britain in 1964 and the establishment of the Central Bank in 1968. Luigi Preziosi (1821–1883) was a Maltese painter known primarily for his detailed watercolor documentation of local costume and daily life — an unusual choice for a circulating denomination, reflecting the young republic's effort to anchor national identity in cultural rather than political figures.
The .925 silver issues of this series saw limited circulation; most were absorbed by collectors almost immediately upon release.
