Pius XII authorized a sustained aluminum coinage program through the 1950s as the Vatican's post-war fiscal reorganization stabilized. The 2 Lire denomination saw virtually no transactional use — Vatican coins of this period circulated almost exclusively among collectors and pilgrims, rendering most survivors in effectively uncirculated condition regardless of issue year.
