Additional information

Pius XII authorized a sustained aluminum coinage program through the 1950s as the Vatican's post-war fiscal reorganization stabilized. The 2 Lire denomination saw virtually no transactional use — Vatican coins of this period circulated almost exclusively among collectors and pilgrims, rendering most survivors in effectively uncirculated condition regardless of issue year.

The series ran across eight years with no major die changes recorded for this type.
