Aanvullende informatie

Issued as part of the Vatican's participation in the FAO "Freedom from Hunger" campaign, this piece was struck the same year Paul VI released Humanae Vitae — the encyclical that provoked one of the sharpest public controversies in modern Catholic history. The coin's agricultural theme sat awkwardly alongside a document condemning artificial contraception in populations where food scarcity and overpopulation were inseparable policy problems.

Aluminium Vatican issues of this period circulated minimally; most were absorbed immediately by collectors and never reached everyday use.
