附加信息

Joachim Murat's coinage as King of Naples was always politically precarious — he ruled entirely at Napoleon's sufferance, and his monetary system was imposed to align the kingdom with the Napoleonic decimal framework rather than from any local economic logic. By 1812, with the Grande Armée unraveling in Russia, Murat was already making quiet diplomatic overtures to the Austrians. He formally switched sides in January 1814, a defection that ultimately failed to save him; he was captured and shot by firing squad in October 1815.
