| Beschrijving keerzijde | A three-quarter bust of Saint Kliment Ohridski (Clement of Ohrid) dominates the central field, depicted in monastic robes with a nimbus behind his head, holding an open alphabet book before him displaying the Cyrillic letters А and Б. To the right of the figure, the founding and centenary dates 1888 and 1988 are inscribed in two lines. The legend СОФИЙСКИ УНИВЕРСИТЕТ curves along the upper periphery, while КЛИМЕНТ ОХРИДСКИ curves along the lower periphery, both separated from the field by raised dots. |

Issued to mark the centenary of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski," Bulgaria's oldest and most prominent institution of higher education, founded in 1888 under the patronage of the Turnovo Constitution's commitment to public education — just a decade after the Liberation from Ottoman rule. The Communist-era Bulgarian National Bank produced commemorative copper-nickel pieces like this one in relatively controlled quantities, largely distributed through state channels rather than general circulation.
