| 裏面の説明 | The Royal Arms of Romania occupy the central field, depicting a quartered shield surmounted by a royal crown and supported by two rampant lions connected by a chain, with a mantle draped behind. A scrolled ribbon at the base of the arms bears the motto NIHIL SINE DEO. The denomination 2 appears to the left and LEI to the right of the shield, with the country name ROMANIA arching above along the upper legend. The date 1914 is placed in the lower field flanked by bullet stops, and the word ESSAI appears to the lower right in the field. A beaded border frames the entire reverse. |

Romania's entry into the First World War was still a year away in 1914, but the Monetăria Statului was already preparing revised coinage under Carol I's aging administration. This essai — a struck trial piece for official evaluation rather than a pattern intended for public circulation — was produced as part of a broader reassessment of the Lei series that would ultimately be interrupted by the war and Carol I's death in October of that same year. The accession of Ferdinand I effectively shelved the entire program.
