| Obverse description | A classically rendered allegorical female figure, semi-draped in flowing robes, is seated frontally upon a throne between two pillared supports. She holds a flaming torch aloft in her raised right hand and rests her left hand upon a book or tablet on her lap; a sword lies at her feet. The dates '930 -' and '1930' are inscribed in the field to the left and right respectively, commemorating the millennium of the Althing. The engraver's initials 'B.B.' appear in the lower exergue. The composition is executed in a refined Neo-Classical style with high sculptural relief. |
