Sigismund von Schrattenbach ruled Salzburg from 1753 until his death in 1771, and these small billon pieces circulated during a period when the archbishopric was quietly accumulating debt from ambitious building campaigns. He was also the employer who hired Leopold Mozart in 1743 — and who would later grant the young Wolfgang extended leave for Italian tours, a tolerance his successor Colloredo famously did not share.
