Obverse description Central field displays a quartered heraldic shield bearing the arms of Stolberg and Königstein, surmounted by a small crown. The shield is flanked on either side by decorative foliate or floral ornaments. The mint mark 'N' (for Nördlingen) appears at the base of the design, accompanied by rosette stops. The date '70' (for 1570) is partially visible in the upper field flanking the crown. The overall composition is characteristic of late sixteenth-century German hammered coinage, with a somewhat irregular flan.
