Obverse description Central field features a tripartite shield displaying the arms of Württemberg (three stag antlers), Montbéliard (a fish), and a third quartering, with the date 16[24] divided across the lower portion of the shield. The entire composition is struck in hammered style with characteristic uneven flan. A circular Latin legend surrounds the shield, reading LUDOVICUS FRIDERICUS D G DUX WURT, identifying Duke Louis Frederick by name and title. The lettering is rendered in Gothic or Roman capitals typical of early seventeenth-century German coinage. The fields show natural die wear consistent with a hammered circulation piece.
