Aanvullende informatie

John Christopher of Westerstetten became Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt in 1612 and presided over one of the most aggressive witch-hunting campaigns in the Holy Roman Empire — his tenure saw hundreds executed in the diocese. The 1623 date places this coin squarely within the opening phase of the Thirty Years' War, when coinage across the Empire was being debased catastrophically during the Kipper- und Wipperzeit currency crisis. Eichstätt's small silver issues of this period are notable precisely because the diocese resisted the worst of the debasement that gutted neighboring mints.
