Additional information

The Bishopric of Chur occupied a strategically awkward position during the Thirty Years' War, wedged between Habsburg ambitions and the Protestant Graubünden federation. Bishop Johann V von Flugi issued small billon coinage during precisely the years when imperial and Spanish forces were contesting control of the Alpine passes through the region — the Valtelline crisis had drawn French, Spanish, and Venetian interference into the canton's affairs only months before these kreuzers were struck.

Production across 1625–26 was brief, which accounts for the type's scarcity today.
