These kopecks belong to the "Serebrom" (silver) coinage system introduced by Finance Minister Yegor Kankrin in 1839 — a sweeping monetary reform that replaced the discredited assignat ruble with a silver-backed currency. The copper denominations were revalued and restruck specifically to align with the new silver standard, which is why they bear the "Serebrom" designation at all: it declared their value in silver terms, not copper.
Four catalog variants reflect differences across the Ekaterinburg and Suzun mints over the reform's first decade. Suzun, the more remote Siberian facility, closed in 1847 — the same year this type ceased production.
