Additional information

Elizabeth's copper coinage of this period was produced under a reorganization of the Russian mint system that saw Ekaterinburg emerge as the primary source for heavy copper issues. The "reticulated" — cross-hatched — edge treatment on this type was an anti-counterfeiting measure, though contemporary forgers working in cheaper copper alloys remained a persistent problem throughout her reign.

Production ceased abruptly with Elizabeth's death in January 1762, making late-dated examples from that final year considerably scarcer than mintage records alone suggest.
