Aanvullende informatie

Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau ruled Salzburg from 1587 until his forced abdication in 1612 — a reign that ended with his imprisonment in the Hohensalzburg fortress, where he died five years later. His tenure coincided with aggressive Counter-Reformation policies and an ambitious building program that reshaped the city, funded in part by Salzburg's considerable salt revenues. The archbishopric's wealth made large-format silver issues like this klippa entirely practical rather than ceremonial vanity.

The square klippa format was associated with presentation and trial pieces across the Habsburg sphere, though examples from Salzburg blur that line — some circulated, some did not.
