| Obverse description | Central field displays the elaborate quartered arms of the Archbishopric of Salzburg surmounted by a cross and ecclesiastical hat, all within a beaded inner circle. The shield is divided into quarters bearing the Salzburg arms and the personal arms of Archbishop Markus Sittikus von Hohenems, with a rampant lion occupying the lower portion. The date 16-13 is divided across the upper field on either side of the cross. The circumscribing Latin legend reads MARCVS SITTICVS D G AREPS SAL AP SE LE, separated by ornamental stops. The entire design is set within the characteristic square klippe flan with chamfered corners and a rope-twist border framing the circular central composition. |
