| Beschrijving voorzijde | The national coat of arms of Papua New Guinea occupies the central field, depicting a Raggiana bird-of-paradise in flight above a traditional kundu drum and a ceremonial spear arranged in saltire. The shield is flanked by the customary supporters and surmounted by the bird-of-paradise crest. The circular legend PAPUA NEW GUINEA arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 2015 positioned below the arms. |

The XV Pacific Games were hosted by Port Moresby in 2015 — the first time Papua New Guinea had staged the event, and a significant organizational undertaking for a country whose sporting infrastructure had faced chronic underfunding. Nordic gold, the copper-aluminum-zinc-tin alloy developed by the Swedish company Nordic Brass in the 1990s, was adopted by numerous issuing authorities as a cost-effective alternative to actual gold-colored precious metals, giving commemorative issues a premium appearance without the associated melt risk.
