| Additional information |
The Bank of Papua New Guinea was established in 1973, just two years before independence, as part of a deliberate effort to build sovereign financial infrastructure ahead of the formal break from Australian administration. This 2008 issue marks its 35th anniversary. The Kina itself replaced the Australian dollar at par on 19 April 1975, one of the more orderly currency transitions in Pacific history.
