Vorderseitenbeschreibung Central vignette in intaglio of a Bird of Paradise perched on a decorated ceremonial spear, its plumage fanned outward against a multicolour guilloche underprint blending green and yellow tones with traditional Melanesian geometric motifs. The denomination numeral '2' appears at upper left in ornate letterpress, with a decorative filigree rendering at upper right. Two facsimile signatures appear at lower centre, attributed to the Governor and the Secretary of the Department of Finance, with the serial number printed in dark ink at lower left and lower right.

Anmerkungen

The Kina was introduced in 1975 when Papua New Guinea decimalised and broke from the Australian dollar following independence. Thomas De La Rue printed the entire inaugural series, and this 2 Kina continued through multiple signature combinations across a decade without any change to the plate design — a long run that reflects both institutional continuity at the Bank of Papua New Guinea and the relative stability of the currency through the 1980s.

Three distinct signature pairings make date-attribution the primary collecting variable within the type. The 1988 ToRobert/Vulupindi pairing had the shortest issue window and is notably harder to find than the flanking combinations.
