Aanvullende informatie

The Penang kepings were struck in Birmingham under contract, part of the Company's effort to regularize petty coinage on the island — then known as Prince of Wales Island — where a chaotic mix of local tin coins, Chinese cash, and Dutch stuivers had made small transactions genuinely difficult. The 1804 issues appeared in both thin and thick flan variants, a production inconsistency almost certainly attributable to rolling mill tolerances at the Birmingham facility rather than any deliberate policy.

Thin flan examples saw proportionally lighter circulation, as locals quickly learned to distinguish them by feel and weight.
