Additional information

Kochhiputa Siri Satakani ruled as a regional subordinate king under the Satavahana umbrella, and his coinage — distinct from the main dynastic issues — reflects the decentralized minting authority that characterized the empire during its middle period. The Satavahanas rarely struck silver at the central level; silver karshapanas from named subordinate rulers are consequently among the more historically specific pieces the dynasty produced.

The karshapana weight standard itself descends from Mauryan punch-marked coinage, still governing silver fabric two centuries after the Mauryan collapse.
