Kwangsi's 1921 pattern coinage emerged from a period when provincial mints across southern China were asserting de facto monetary independence from a Beijing government that had largely lost control of the interior. Whether this copper striking was a serious production proposal or a die trial for assessing alloy appearance before committing to a silver or cupro-nickel run is unresolved — surviving examples are few enough that no consensus has formed. The Y#415c designation groups it with related provincial pattern material, but the KM#Pn7 listing treats it as a discrete issue.
