| Obverse description | The obverse features an allegorical composition evoking the patriotic, heroic, and romantic themes of Fedkovych's literary work: a mounted horseman, hatchet raised in hand, defending a group of swallows from an attacking bird of prey. The date 2004 appears to the left of the central design, below which are the small National Emblem of Ukraine and the mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine. To the right, a three-line stylized Cyrillic legend reads УКРАЇНА above the denomination 2 ГРИВНІ. |

To the right of the portrait, a vertical Cyrillic inscription gives the subject's name ЮРІЙ ФЕДЬКОВИЧ, beneath which his years of life 1834 - 1888 are inscribed. The overall design is restrained and formal, consistent with the commemorative portrait coin series issued by the National Bank of Ukraine. |
