| 裏面の説明 | At centre, a portrait of scientist Yuri Kondratyuk (born Olexander Sharhei) is depicted in profile, flanked by stylised star motifs in the upper left field. To the right of the portrait, a schematic diagram of the so-called 'Kondratyuk Route' illustrates the trajectory of a spacecraft travelling to the Moon, landing on its surface, and returning to Earth. Below the portrait, the dates 1897–1942 denote the years of the scientist's life. The legend ЮРІЙ КОНДРАТЮК arcs along the upper circumference, while (ОЛЕКСАНДР ШАРГЕЙ) is inscribed along the lower circumference in parentheses. |

Yuri Kondratyuk never lived to see the Space Age he helped theorize. Born Oleksandr Shargei in 1897, he adopted a false identity to evade Soviet persecution — and it was under that assumed name that he wrote the orbital mechanics calculations NASA engineers later credited as foundational to the Apollo lunar orbit rendezvous approach. John Houbolt, the NASA engineer who championed that mission profile, made a point of visiting Kondratyuk's grave in Poltava.
This commemorative was issued the same year Ukraine marked the centenary of his birth.
