Heol is a regional complementary currency launched in Finistère, Brittany, in 2013 — one of several French monnaies locales complémentaires that emerged following the 2008 financial crisis and gained formal legal recognition under the July 2014 ESS law. The name means "sun" in Breton. These notes circulate exclusively among member businesses and consumers within the local network, convertible to euros at par, and are deliberately designed to encourage spending velocity rather than saving.
