| 表面の説明 | Displayed double-headed eagle with outstretched wings, each head facing outward and surmounted by a single imperial crown, with a larger crown spanning both heads at center. The Austrian shield — horizontally divided, with horizontal lines in the upper field and a plain lower field — is affixed to the eagle's breast. The lower portion of the design features elaborate acanthus-style foliate ornamentation extending from the eagle's talons into the field. |

Austria's small-denomination iron coinage of 1916–1918 was a direct product of wartime metal requisitioning. By 1916, copper and bronze had been redirected entirely to munitions production, forcing the Vienna mint to shift subsidiary coinage to iron. The switch created persistent striking difficulties — iron work-hardens rapidly against dies, and the Viennese presses were not designed for ferrous blanks at this scale.
Surviving examples frequently show uneven surfaces from blank preparation rather than circulation wear.
