Czechoslovakia's earliest coinage followed the 1918 declaration of independence, but the new state struggled to establish a functioning mint infrastructure quickly enough. For the first years, coins were struck at the Kremnica Mint in Slovakia — one of Europe's oldest operating mints, with records dating to 1328 — which became the backbone of the fledgling republic's monetary production. The 2 haléř was among the first denominations issued under the new currency system established by the 1919 monetary reform that separated Czechoslovak currency from the Austro-Hungarian krone.
