Obverse description Facing right portrait bust of Elector Friedrich III wearing a broad-brimmed hat, set within an inner circle, with the titles of Friedrich III rendered in Gothic-influenced Latin lettering forming the circumferential legend. Four small heraldic shields of arms are equally spaced within the legend, dividing it into four segments. On dated examples, the year is punched into the field to the left of the bust. The composition reflects the Renaissance-era portrait style typical of late 15th- and early 16th-century Saxon coinage.
